1865 The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) is created to finance the growing trade between Europe, India and China. An office was opened in San Francisco, USA, in the same year.
1973 HSBC forms Hong Kong-based Wardley as a wholly owned merchant banking subsidiary, with asset management conducted in Hong Kong, Singapore, Sydney, Tokyo and London.
1986 The acquisition of New York-based Marinvest establishes the US arm of HSBC asset management.

The European arm of HSBC Asset Management is conceived with the purchase of James Capel, a leading and well-established international securities company.
1992 Consolidation in Europe with the acquisition of the Midland Bank Group in the UK, and with it a majority stake in Trinkaus & Burkhardt in Germany.
1994 HSBC’s regional asset management companies brought together, creating a single global investment manager, HSBC Asset Management.
1997 HSBC acquires Bamerindus, establishing a strong asset management presence in Brazil.
2000 Acquisition of CCF Bank, France – CCF Capital Management in Paris joins HSBC Asset Management.
2001 Reorganisation of the asset management business under the name Asset Management Services, comprising both the core business and several specialist companies.

Acquisition of China Securities Investment Trust Corporation.

HSBC Asset Management (India) Private Limited is incorporated.
2003 Integration of G F Bital’s fund management business in Mexico, following the acquisition of the bank by HSBC Holdings the previous year.
2003 Acquisition of Bank of Bermuda and integration of investment management activity.
2005 HSBC Investments (USA) Inc acquires Atlantic Advisors LLC, a specialist in global emerging markets fixed income.
2006 Joint venture fund management company in China, Jintrust, is established.
2008 All entities operating as HSBC Investments adopt the HSBC Global Asset Management name.
2010 HSBC’s specialist investment businesses move to a single brand, HSBC Global Asset Management.
2011 HSBC Global Asset Management fully integrates its specialist investment businesses as it develops a globally consistent investment platform, with expertise in all the main capabilities: equities, fixed income, multi-asset and liquidity.
2013 HSBC Global Asset Management celebrates its 40th anniversary. HSBC Global Asset Management in Hong Kong receives Renminbi Qualified Foreign Institutional Investor (RQFII) licence.
2014 HSBC Global Asset Management becomes the first international asset manager to launch an RQFII bond fund in Hong Kong.
